A Slice of Life

I'm thrilled to share some exciting updates about my upcoming novel, "A Slice of Life" (working title). Writing this novel has been an incredible journey, and I can't wait to take you along with me. Here is a synopsis along with photos of three of the main characters.

Synopsis of "A Slice of Life"

Set in 1972 New York City, the story follows Marie, a young woman exploring her identity and past through mystical experiences and complex relationships. Raised by her Aunt Angela, who introduced her to the unseen world via a magical mirror, Marie struggles to reconcile her metaphysical heritage with her desire for a traditional life. Her journey involves navigating two romantic relationships and uncovering family secrets tied to The Five Pointed Star Club, an immigrant community organization.

The Characters

Marie is at the heart of this story. She embodies the struggle between tradition and self-discovery. Her relationships are both a source of joy and conflict.

Anthony and Patrick, the two men in her life, represent different paths. Each offers Marie a glimpse into what her future could hold. Their interactions are filled with tension and passion, making her choices all the more difficult.

About the Author

Carmela Cattuti started her writing career as a writer for the Somerville News in Boston, MA. She is a writer, painter, and yoga instructor based in Boston. After finishing her graduate work in English Literature at Boston College, she began to write creatively and taught Journal Writing at the Cambridge Center for Adult Education.

As fate would have it, she felt compelled to write her great-aunt's story. Her trilogy—Between the Cracks, The Ascent, and The Benevolence of New Ideas—is based on this family history. The trilogy explores themes of immigration, resilience, and family legacy, drawing inspiration from her great-aunt's experiences.
